Movie Critique Summary The movie Radio is based on the true life story of James Robert Radio Kennedy, an African-American male with a slight mental disability, played by Cuba Gooding Jr.. The setting of this movie is in the small rural town of Anderson, South Carolina in 1976.The movie begins with the main character, Radio, pushing a grocery cart filled with his personal belongings and a radio, which he was affectionately named after, along a train track. During Radio s frequent journeys through the small town, he frequently passes the practice fields of the local high school football team, the T.I. Hanna Yellow Jackets. Ed Harris character Coach Harold Jones portrayed the empathetic view towards a person with disability, which led to questions about his motive. The other aspect shown was th at of fear, which is portrayed when Frank and other opposition to Radio s presence in the school, spoke out. The in-depth research on the fictional character this movie was based on created an accurate depiction of a person with disabilities similar to Radio s condition. The combination of societies views on people with disabilities during that time, and the theatrical interpretation of Radio s condition gave the movie a realistic representation of people with disabilities. The movie also contained instances where the initiative of inclusion was argued. A main instance is when a mental health supervisor comes to the high school and discusses with Coach Jones the option of sending Radio to a mental health institution instead of his continued presence in the classroom with other students. We believe strongly that it is not too late to confront this serious issue and to reverse our course. We have highlighted impacts that pose specific threats to our home states and the consequences for our nation. At this point, however, I would like to shift our focus a bit to address the perils faced by native communities at home and abroad. In addition to representing a state with a large indigenous population, my committee assignments in the Senate place me in a unique position to listen, study and consult with native people; use my voice to amplify native community concerns; and, engage in legislative and public policy advocacy on behalf of Native Americans on a broad range of issues. Ralph is thevoice of hope on the island, and without that, the boys would have turned to savagerymuch faster, and under the control of Jack. William Golding uses Ralph and hischaracter foil, Jack, to show how civilization works and how it doesnt. Jack, the chiefof the hunters, represents the hidden human passion and almost animal cruelty, andRalph, who represents human common sense to show how civlization is. This story isan allegory. This means the character, events and setting represent deeper truths orgeneralizations then those suggested by the surface story. There are four maincharacters, and each character represents different types of people in the world. Jackis the dictator who uses force to show his thoughts and feelings. Therefore he is thedestructive side of man. He is the type of person who would rather have fun andgrati fication over work. On the other hand Ralph is the believer in democracy andfairness. He is the voice of hope, and the responsible type of person. The boys on theisland, allegorically show what the human civilization is like. Ralph stands for orderand conduct of society. Each chapter begins with order, which means that Ralph hascontrol. Ralph uses the conch to show order and the right to speak. By the end ofeach chapter there is no order and there is usually chaos, this shows that evil and/orfear has control, meaning Jack has control. Allegorically in the world it would be alegislative government versus a military type of government. Where Ralph is thelegislative and Jack is military. The disorder caused by Jack, threatens the island andthe society that Ralph has tried so hard to form. Ralph wants to have a fire, so theycan be rescued, but Jack is more worried about having fun then being rescued and thisis a major conflict. The fire is a symbol for hope and enlightenment, but when i t getsout of control it becomes very destructive. Anything without order and control canbecome destructive, this is why Ralph is so important to the society. The twocharacter foils, Ralph and Jack, have different ideas and want different things. Ralphwants huts and a signal fire. The huts which stand for civilization and the signal fire isneeded to get rescued. This shows that Ralph creates and builds. On the opposite endof that is Jack. Jack wants to hunt and kill pigs and have fun. This shows primitivism. Jack is shown as a person who kills and destroys. Here is the conflict; creating andbuilding versus killing and destroying. Ralph asks Jack what he wants: Dont youwant to be rescued? All you talk about is pig, pig, pig! And Jack answers him andtells him what he wants: But we want meat! This tells us that Ralph and Jack will notsettle their differences. Right from the start unity of society is threatened by thedifferent purposes of the boys. Ralph was never comfortable with primitivism, butJack rather enjoyed it. Since most of the boys have lost the need for civilization and the hope of beingrescued, Ralph has lost control of them. They now fear the beast, and Jack tells theboys that if they are hunters they can protect themselves from the beast. So now Jackgets control of most of the boys. Ralph loses hope: Im frightened. Of us. I want to gohome. O god I want to go home. But Piggy was there to help him out of his slump fora bit. But when Piggy is killed, Ralph is helpless and desperate. He is alone and itseems that Ralphs common sense has entirely been defeated. There is a runningtheme in William Goldings Lord of the Flies. Man is savage at heart, this is shown byRalph in the pig hunt, and always ultimately reverting back to an evil and primitivenature. This is all shown by Jack and his group of hunters when they have the pigdances, the pigs head as a scarifices and, last but not least, they turn into a group ofsavages. Ralph and his common sense stays almost the same throughout the book, it sJack and his hunters who change. To end, heres a quote from David Andersonswork entitled Nostaldia for the Primates: In this book Golding succeeds in givingconvincing form to which exists deep in our self-awareness. By the skill of his writing,he takes the reader step by step along the same regressive route as that traversed bythe boys on the island Our first reaction are those of civilized people. For example: Dear President Dr. Turner The short answer is, â€Å"not in English.†    The conventional letter salutations in English are these Dear Mr. Adams Dear Mr. and Mrs. Adams Dear Ms. Adams Dear Margaret Adams Dear Harry  (if you know the person well) Dear Dr. Adams Dear Dr. and Mrs. Adams When the name is unknown to the sender, the following are common salutations: To Whom It May Concern Dear Finance Officer Dear Editor Dear Sir or Madam The conventional English honorific for a man is  Mr. For a woman, even if her marital status is known, the preferred form is  Ms. For a medical doctor or a person with a PhD, the appropriate honorific is  Dr.    Note: British usage does not put a period after these abbreviations.    If the sender knows the recipient’s name but not the sex, a gender-neutral solution is to use the first and last name: Dear Cory Simpson Other languages have other conventions, including the practice of using more than one honorific. For example, in German, when addressing a professional like a doctor or a lawyer, a writer may use two honorifics: Sehr  geehrte  Frau  Rechtsanwltin  Fischer. (literally, â€Å"Very honored Madame Lawyer†)    Sehr  geehrter  Herr  Doktor  Strauss  (literally, â€Å"Very honored Mr. Doctor Strauss†) Foreign letter-writing conventions tend to creep into English in the context of foreign affairs. For example, I found the following usage on sites written in English: Dear President Dr.  Jakaya  Kikwete- Open letter to the president of Tanzania, published on the Greenpeace site.    Dear President Dr. Fischer- open letter to the president of Austria, published on the Human Rights Watch site. Such usage is not idiomatic in English. The writer must choose one title: Dear President Kikwete or Dear Dr. Kikwete Dear President Fischer, or Dear Dr. Fischer It’s up to the sender to decide which title is more desirable in the context. Since it is a growing trend by UK based companies to employ Indian executives for their overseas branches, the planning suggested here is on a long-term basis. Typically there are four phases of human resource planning – collection of data which helps to forecast the human resource demand, the human resource objectives have then to be established, then comes the designing and implementation phase where the organization achieves the human resource objectives (which means staffing, appraising, compensating and training) and finally these programs will have to be monitored and evaluated (Appendix A). For such planning an assessment of the macro environment is necessary both in India and the UK. In addition, the skill requirement has to be assessed as technological change is an ongoing process (MDR, 1997). The specific skill requirement, the unskilled and semi-skill have to be assessed in addition to the qualification of the present employees. The local employment market and the competition has to be assessed which would help in deciding at what stages it would be possible to get skilled people. The micro environment of the industry will give information about employee turnover, the prevalent salary, other terms of employment including promotions and transfers. In today’s world compensation packages do not matter and what matters is to have a talent powered organization consisting of highly motivated, skilled and loyal employees (Gordon, 2002). The recruitment activity requires making employment oppurtunities known to qualified individuals in a manner that proper job specifications are communicated. The required employee qualifications also need to be
